Hello 2016!

I can’t begin to explain how amazing it feels to be sitting down at the computer, and writing this post. I’m looking forward to getting back into the swing of reviewing and doing challenges this year! I feel much more connected in the book community than I did last year, and that is thanks to some wonderful friends on Twitter. ( You know who you are. I love you guys so much. ) I have really missed this part of my life.

This year, I plan on taking part of two book challenges being hosted by some wonderful friends of mine.  The first one is the #Rockmy TBR challenge hosted by my good friend Sarah from The YA Book Traveller. A bunch of us have signed up to try and read as many books as we can from our TBR!  You can learn more about it here and sign up if you’re interested! My TBR post will be up in a few days!

The second challenge I am taking part in is the Commenting 365 Challenge from the wonderful Nori, who blogs over at ReadWriteLove28.  Nori has been incredibly helpful and welcoming into the community and I am super happy to call her a friend.

Nori also has a full post over on her blog with all the challenges going on this year. You can check those out here.

I have a lot of great posts planned for the next upcoming weeks, and some giveaways as well! I can’t wait to show you guys my new book nook in my room, which is one of the most relaxing and wonderful places to be. I can’t wait to share with you the graphic novels I am falling in love with, and the 2016 books I look forward to diving into.

What have I started off 2016 reading? It’s the second day of January and I have already read the first 3 volumes of Ms Marvel. I have no idea why I haven’t started these sooner, but I have a lot to say about this comic. Spoiler alert – I have nothing bad to say about it so far.

I also look forward to sharing something new with you. If you’ve been here before you will notice some changes. First – I have changed my blog name to Aphonic Sarah. I have been rocking this name out on Twitter, and it has really stuck with me. Secondly – You will notice that there is going to be more than books going on here. I wanted to open up my blog to be aimed at more than just books; I wanted it aimed at something that I am dealing with personally and that a lot of people struggle with on a daily basis. Mental Health.

I was recently diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, and it is something that revolves around my everyday activity. ( For now. ) I haven’t taken the news well, and when I went looking for information and stories around BPD I was scared. It was scary, intimidating and got to the point where I was told by my therapist not to read into my own disorder. ( Which was incredibly hard, but I now understand why she did it. ) I really appreciate the warning from her, because things could have been made worse from triggers.

Some posts may not be the brightest and happiest, and for those, I will add a trigger warning at the beginning. Why am I sharing my story and what’s happening right now? Because I know how hard it is to find that connection online, that is honest and truthful. I want someone else who may be looking for help or information to reach out and find comfort in knowing they are not alone.

2016 is going to be an amazing year, and I look forward to seeing not only what it brings to me but also to my friends and family!

OMG. Okay, first of all THE HEADER. And also the scroll to top button. And the super clean aesthetic and just gah, it’s all perfect. I’ll be looking forward to reading your bookish posts as well as mental health discussions — it’s an issue that I think needs more representation in all forms of media. Excited to read your posts in 2016!

Sarah I’m so glad I found your blog. 2015 was hard for me because I was also diagnosed with mental illness. I’ve been trying to open up about it more on my blog. I’m so glad to have found another book buddy who is doing the same. Good luck on your journey to mental health 🙂

I’m looking forward to what you have in store for your blog! You seem to be pretty happy about getting back into the swing of things. 🙂 I like that you’re going to include more than just books! I agree: it CAN be hard to find a connection online.

    Happy 2016! 🙂
