Pages: 390

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl.
Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

There are some books you read, where you wish you could hop into the pages and end up in the story – In the world, the author created within those pages. This was one of those books. I want to walk through New Beijing and take in this amazing world of Cyborgs, humans, and air crafts. Toss in Space, an evil queen, a cyborg version of Cinderella, along with an amazing story line and you have this amazing book! It’s a mix of Dystopian, Science fiction, and Fantasy. Three things I LOVE reading about. Top it all off with an amazing cover, and I knew the moment I saw it, I needed to read it. You never know what to expect when there is a mash-up of fairy tales, but ‘Cinder‘ blew me away!

“Vanity is a factor, but it is more a question of control. It is easier to trick others into perceiving you as beautiful if you can convince yourself you are beautiful. But mirrors have an uncanny way of telling the truth.”

Cinder is a young cyborg, who is a mechanic in New Beijing. She lives with her rather cruel Stepmother, and two step sisters, one of which she doesn’t get along with. Cyborgs in this world, are looked down upon by humans and do not have the same rights as many other people. Her stepmother – Adri – puts her through so much, and constantly feels the need to remind her that she never wanted her to begin with. The only reason she is in the care of Adri is because of her late husband.

Cinder is a very charming, strong heroine character who proves that even in the darkness of others, you can come out strong.

One day, while sitting at her stand in the market, Prince Kai comes to Cinder, asking for her help to fix an android of his from the castle. Kai finds himself attracted to Cinder when he first sees her, not knowing she is a cyborg. Cinder keeps the fact she is a cyborg from him while developing feelings for him herself. Queen Levena, is the enemy in this book. A cold, heartless woman from the moon, who happens to be Lunar. Not only does she have her eyes set on being queen to earth and her moon, but she has her eyes set on Prince Kai to make it possible.

This story is full of adventure, a building romance, and more adventure! The ending left me wanting MORE. I did end up reading both ‘Scarlet‘ and ‘Cress‘ – The next two books in the series. I will be doing up my reviews on these in the upcoming weeks! I loved this book SO much, and I can’t wait to see how it continues.
