Welcome to the blog of a self-proclaimed tattooed warlock, specializing in badassery!
My name is Sarah, but I am more than that; I am a mother of three beautiful girls and step-mother to another, wife to a man that treats me as his equal, blogger, crafter and may things in between! My newest additions are two gorgeous Great Danes Atlas and Athena. (They didn’t have any unicorns so I went with the next best thing.)
I am 29 years young (please, humor me) and call Nova Scotia, Canada my home. Land of maple syrup and the ever delicious poutine.
I consider myself a bibliophile, a lover of all things to do with the written word and all the forms that it may come in. My life wouldn’t be complete without them. I can tell you with all honesty that I am not a genre snob, from contemporary to science fiction, however, one of my favourite themes touches on issues of mental health. My body can be found in my book nook covered with a soft blanket and perhaps even a hot chocolate at hand but my mind, that beautiful and imaginative thing, is traversing across several universes on adventures with fictional characters. Let’s also not forget, graphic novels need love too. Hand me one of those bad boys and you will have a friend for life!
Can I take a moment to reveal to you, my inner geek? Well, let’s be honest. There is no inner or outer geek with me, I am a geek to the bone. I am a MASSIVE fan of the Hunger Games (May the odds be ever in your favor), Harry Potter (who needs any other house besides Hufflepuff? #puffpride), Star Wars (May the force be with you, or the fourth if you’re a fan of calendar puns), Star Trek (not to be confused with the previous, or you may incite rebellion, and there simply aren’t enough red shirts) among other nerdy things. I am also an avid gamer, spanning titles like Final Fantasy XV (for debate’s sake I’m #teamNoctis), World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV, and when I really want to feel as though my heart is about to burst from my chest, Dead By Daylight.
I am a connoisseur of tattoos. The sound of the machine, the splashes of colors from the ink, and the underlying meaning of the piece (to use a bookish term, the story) are the very things I love of the whole process.
This blog serves two purposes; one being a place where you can find many reviews on both up and coming novels, as well as new releases. The second, which is something very near and dear to me, and of which I am a strong advocate, is mental health. On September of 2015, my life changed in so many ways with three words. Borderline Personality Disorder. It has been a struggle and something that myself and my family have to deal with on a daily basis. Some days are completely wonderful and fill my heart with so much joy, while on others, it’s a bloody battlefield with no white flag waving for mercy.
It was partly this reason that this blog came into being, a place where I could share my experience (the good, the bad, and the ugly), to reach out with those who may be going through the same thing, or even those who have no clue. If you happen to be someone who has been diagnosed with BPD and are reading this, feeling lost and alone – It’s okay. I understand entirely.
However, whatever the reason you’ve arrived at my page (admit it, it’s in hopes there will be pictures of dogs), I welcome you with open arms, no matter who you are. Enjoy your visit, take away ideas for future books to add to your TBR pile. If you do, why not subscribe?
You can find me on both Twitter and Instagram at @AphonicSarah where I share book-related things, mental health, parenting and things about life in general.
